About Us

Our Story

Two In Two Out was born from both generational experience and a deeply personal journey within the fire service.

Chris Johnson is a second generation firefighter who grew up in a first responder home. As a child, he witnessed the impact that cumulative trauma and undiagnosed PTSD had on his father and their family. Those early experiences shaped his understanding of the hidden weight carried by first responders and the ripple effect it has on spouses and children.

Years later, while serving as a firefighter at Rock Creek Fire District, Chris faced his own mental health crisis. After years of cumulative stress and unprocessed trauma, he entered a 40-day residential treatment program in 2024, where he began the work of recovery and learned tools to rebuild his health, resilience, and connection to his family.

During that time, Brittain (Chris’s Wife) experienced firsthand the fear, uncertainty, and isolation that many first responder spouses quietly carry. Together, their experience revealed a critical gap. Support often comes only after a crisis, and families are rarely included in the recovery process.

Determined to turn their experience into something that could help others, Chris and Brittain partnered with their department and community to create a firefighter and spouse wellness room at Rock Creek Fire District. Built entirely through donations and community support, the space includes a sauna, cold plunge, red light therapy, and massage chair, giving firefighters and their spouses a place to decompress, recover, and care for both their physical and mental health.

The response was immediate. The room opened in October 2025 with strong department support and growing use by both firefighters and families, confirming a much larger need across the fire service.

That momentum led to the creation of Two In Two Out Wellness, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing proactive wellness resources directly into firehouses while extending support to the spouses and families who serve alongside them.

Because when first responders are healthy at home and at work, families are stronger, departments are stronger, and communities are safer.
